Cheers! Today may seem like a regular day in December but for those alcohol enthusiasts, it's quite a special one. December 5th marks the anniversay date of the day when the 21st Amendment was ratified. For those of you unfamiliar with the 21st Amendment, here is a laymens term for you---Prohibition. Jnauary 16, 1919 was the day that Prohibition started and for 13 years it went on. This amendment was to rid American of drunkeness, poverty and mental illness which we believe became worse AFTER Prohibition started. December 5, 1933 was the official day of the end of the 21st Amendment and Prohibition, but a few states were against this. By 1966, every state honored the ratification of the Amendment. So, 79 years later, we are raising our glasses [and writing blog posts] about one of the most memorable and joyous days in American history.
