[Cocktail of the Week] Corpse Reviver

Is it just us or are classic cocktails making comebacks just as strong as they are? One of our favorite classics is a drink that belongs to a family of...the same drink. If that makes sense. (Drumroll please)

CORPSE REVIVER

This drink belongs to a family of cocktails that are rumored to be cures for hangovers. Most popularly known to be the drink you consume to keep from having a hangover the next day, many of the recipes have fallen off. The drink world now has 3 well-known versions of the Corpse Reviver: Corpse Reviver #1, Corpse Reviver #2 and the Savoy Corpse Reviver. We recommend trying them all. Visit the post again to let us know which is your favorite!

Corpse Reviver #1

Alcohol: Cognac
Served: Straight Up
Drinkware: Cocktail Glass
Ingredients:
 -2 parts cognac
 -1 part apple brandy
 -1 part sweet vermouth
Preparation: Stir with ice and strain into a chilled glass

According to Wikipedia, "The plain Corpse Reviver cocktail is a cognac-based cocktail, with two parts cognac, one part Calvados or equivalent apple brandy, and one part sweet vermouth."

Corpse Reviver #2

Alcohol: Gin
Served: Straight Up
Drinkware: Cocktail Glass
Ingredients:
 -3/4 ounce gin
 -3/4 ounce lemon juice
-3/4 ounce of Cointreau (triple sec)
-3/4 ounce of Kina Lillet or Cocchi Americano (Aperitif wine)
 -1 dash of Absinthe
Preparation: Shake in a mixer with ice. Strain into chilled glass.

Wikipedia says, "The Corpse Reviver #2 is the more popular of the corpse revivers, and consists of equal parts gin, lemon juice, triple sec (commonly Cointreau), Kina Lillet, and a dash ofabsinthe. The dash of absinthe can either be added to the mix before shaking, or added to the cocktail glass and moved around until the glass has been coated with a layer of absinthe. It can also be used to coat the edge of the glass to give a subtle absinthe aroma and flavor to the drink.[3][4]
As the Corpse Reviver #2 cocktail was invented at a time when Lillet used the original Kina Lillet formulation, some have taken to using Cocchi Americano instead of Lillet Blanc in this cocktail in order to approximate the taste of the original cocktail"

Savoy Corpse Reviver
Alcohol: Brandy
Served: Straight Up
Drinkware: Cocktail Glass
Ingredients:
 -1 part Brandy
-1 part Fernet Branca (aromatic bitters)
-1 part White Creme de menthe
Preparation: Shake ingredients with ice. Strain into chilled glass.

Wikipedia notes that this recipe is a variation invented by Joe Gilmore in 1954.
